Should you decide you would like to proceed with a conceptual plan, Mark can begin to prepare a detailed inventory and analysis of the site, at this time or later. An inventory would verify the location of any drain fields or septic tanks, overhead utilities, building orientation, solar exposure, remnant construction which can be removed, mature shrubs and hazard trees. An analysis would require more in depth investigation such as HOA requirements and restrictions, code requirements, underground utility locations, plant materials survey and the taking of soil samples. A conceptual plan would respond to your stated goals and include recommending any trees, shrubs and groundcover for removal or preservation, identification of circulation corridors, designating utility areas, screening undesirable views and emphasizing views which are liked. It would also include locations, sizes and quantities of recommended mulches, groundcovers, shrubs, and trees that will reinforce the design which you will help plan. If necessary, you can retain Mark to oversee the construction and installation of any or all elements of your landscape installation. As a Florida licensed Landscape Architect, Mark is qualified to assist you with every step of your site design, including construction plans, choosing materials and site fixtures, and locating structures. He can also help you make your landscape more sustainable by recommending and designing plans for improving drainage or infiltration of runoff, evaluating existing irrigation or providing plans for a new irrigation design that can help conserve water, efficient energy conserving low voltage lighting design, and advise you in choosing the best pervious pavements for your walkways, patios or driveways. It is recommended that if you are considering hiring a landscape architect for new construction, you consult with one as early in the process as possible to maximize the integration between the natural ecology and the proposed built environment. Utility locations, building placement and orientation, and access points are all necessary considerations but a hurried or ill-considered organization can severely limit your options for a more livable site if the impacts they may have are not taken into account from the beginning.
